BlogsAscension ConfessionYesterday, four of us Light of the World folks went on a whirlwind tour of some Farmington schools, to check out possible spaces for our new community to worship in. It was pretty exciting. I mean, when you're looking for worship space, this means that it's no longer just an idea; this is becoming real. There will be a real place for people to gather on real folding chairs in a real "cafetorium" and we'll have real church together.
Be Careful What You Ask ForI am done being surprised by what God is doing. Instead, I am simply grateful. God is sending us just the right people with just the right gifts at just the right time. Saturday night I was hanging out at the Ugly Mug in Farmington listening to Dave Alitz's kickin' band, and met someone who is in charge of planning a Ramblin' River Days event that is perfect for our new church to participate in. It will be a great way for us to get our name out in the community. Coincidence? I think not. It's God bringing us just the right people at just the right time.
Post-Garrison KeillorI just read that the Lutheran church in America declined by 80,000 members last year. The guy at the church headquarters who tracks trends and demographics deduces that a Lutheran church that is like the one that Garrison Keillor talks about on Prairie Home Companion just doesn't seem that relevent to folks who are looking for meaning and community in the 21st century.
Let's BeginHello. With folks from Shepherd of the Valley and lots of other partners, we're going to start a new Lutheran church in Dakota County, probably in Farmington, probably in December 2007. I'm not an expert on starting churches, but I do know that with God, all things are possible. Another thing I know...it's about relationships. So, please, be part of the conversation with me. Here is an answer to a FAQ for you; then I have a question for you:
